Backpacking Trips for Women

The days of the 50-pound pack are over! Lightweight backpacking is the best way to get away from it all and experience the freedom that comes with living simply.

If you are new to backpacking, or simply haven't backpacked in a while (like before you had kids or started working), we recommend you start with our first trip. You'll learn about all lightweight backpacking so when you go on the longer trips, you're not carrying more than you need.

June 15 - 22, 2008: Backpacking the Appalachian Trail: An Introduction to Lightweight Backpacking

backpacking the appalachian trail, section by section

On this trip we backpack along one of the Appalachian Trail's most interesting sections, from Fox Creek to Wise Mountain, at the height of the rhododendron and azaleas. This is a perfect trip for beginners: our moderate mileage leaves time for you to learn everything you need to know to pursue backpacking on your own. Or if you haven't been backpacking for awhile, join us to learn about the lightweight revolution. Our lightweight approach should keep your pack under 30 pounds. $995 (deduct $50 if you register by 2/15) Maximum group size is 10 M+

September 7 - 15, 2008: Backpacking Isle Royale

Isle Royale National Park is one of the least-used National Parks. And no wonder! Located in the middle of Lake Superior, access is quite limited and there are more moose than people on the island. Our challenging backpacking trip will take us from one end to the other as we traverse the main ridge. Backpacking experience suggested $1125 (deduct $50 if you register by 5/7) V

October 5 - 12, 2008: Backpacking the Appalachian Trail Section by Section

We continue our section hiking of the Appalachian Trail this year, right through Shenandoah National Park during fall foliage season. Hiking 51 miles in 6 days, we'll pass peaks and waterfalls as we traverse from Swift Run Gap to Thornton Gap. Backpacking experience suggested. $995 (deduct $50 if you register by 6/5) Maximum group size is 10 M+

Not sure you want to carry a full pack and camp but you want that backcountry feel? Consider these two trips, the perfect compromise between camping and a frontcountry trip (both of these require some previous hiking experience and good condition:

July 20 - 26, 2008: Hiking Hut to Hut on the Appalachian Trail

This section of the Appalachian Trail offers the highest peaks in the White Mountains, windswept ridges, and dramatic views. It also has something more commonly found in the Alps: comfortable huts with a warm bed and a hot meal at the end of the day! This represents a great solution for women who want to hike on the Appalachian Trail but prefer not to carry a backpack. $1250 (deduct $50 if you register by 3/22). Maximum group size is 10 V

September 1 - 7, 2008: Hiking Hut to Hut in British Columbia

During our 5 day hike you won't see another person until the last day! Wells Gray Park, one of the best kept secrets in Canada, has 1.4 million acres of beautiful peaks, unspoiled lakes, and lush meadows with an infinite variety of mountain wildflowers. Tucked away in this magnificent park are 2 cozy huts that we have to ourselves, so well-stocked that we need only carry light packs on our hikes into them. $1350 (deduct $50 if you register by 2/20) Maximum group size is 10 M+
