Explanation of our ratings

All of our trips are active, and it's important for your enjoyment to choose a trip that is suitable for your fitness level and meets your expectations for activity. Because we offer such a wide variety of trips, we rate our trips by the level of condition you should be in to enjoy the trip. Many women sign up for a trip with the intention of using it as a goal for improving their fitness. If you have any doubt about a trip's suitability, please call us at 877-439-4042.

R Trips with this rating are suitable for any active woman in good health. You should be able to walk 4 miles and have good balance and mobility. In addition these trips offer the ability to easily opt out of some activities on the itinerary and thus have a more relaxed vacation, or you can do everything we offer and be as active as you choose. This makes R rated trips ideal for women who are coming with someone who wants a different level of activity, and for women who are new to active vacations and uncertain about their own abilities.

M These trips require the same conditioning as R trips but will have at least some days where opting out is not possible and may have a day or two of greater activity. Preferably women should have a moderate level of conditioning, such as walking at a brisk pace for 30 to 40 minutes 4 times a week. Women who do not regularly exercise can also enjoy these trips and will probably find that they are at the end of the day.

M+ These trips are suitable for someone who works out vigorously 4 to 5 times a week for 30 - 45 minutes. Whatever you do for exercise (biking, cross country skiing, power walking, running or jogging, stair stepping) must be sufficient to raise your heart rate to the aerobic range (70-80% of maximum) for 30 - 45 minutes. If you don't have a heart rate monitor, this is the equivalent of still being able to talk in short sentences. Walking alone is not sufficient unless you include lots of hills and walk at a rapid pace. You should be able to maintain physical activity over the entire day, with breaks. If you're unsure, give us a call and tell us what you do for exercise.

V These trips may require additional conditioning even for people who are in very good condition, such as a couple of days of endurance work per week or the addition of strength training. Please do not sign up for one of these trips unless you have the time to adequately prepare for it.
