People from all over the world dream of visiting New Zealand for many reasons. It’s a country that blends breathtaking natural beauty, world-renowned adventure, and authentic cultural experience into one single and unforgettable journey.
Past travelers who have experienced New Zealand with Adventures in Good Company have raved not only about the mountains that rise above glacier-fed lakes, wild coastlines, and lush rainforests, but also about the wonderful and supportive group of women they experienced it all with and the memories made through that camaraderie and shared spirit of adventure.
Linda M., a traveler who joined AGC’s New Zealand’s Wild Wonders: Southern Alps & National Parks trip with her daughter in early 2026, described how that combination left a lasting impression. The experience of the grandeur of the Southern Alps, wild West Coast, and the friendliness of the women she met during the adventure revealed why a New Zealand adventure can go from a bucket list dream to an experience you’ll never forget.
Experience the Scale of the Southern Alps
Though the photos of lush, coastal, and mountainous New Zealand are what originally intrigue people, the sheer scale of the landscape is something nobody truly understands until they see it for themselves. Linda remembers the moment she saw the Southern Alps for the first time in person, noting that vehicles appeared as small as ants beneath the regal, towering mountain range.
We don’t just sightsee here at AGC; though, we explore the trails themselves. The Rob Roy Glacier Track leads through beech forests and toward a viewpoint of a hanging glacier. Later in the journey, a stay in Aoraki/Mount Cook Village provides travelers with more opportunities to explore the surrounding national park. Each place offers a different way to appreciate the mountains, whether it be from looking up from within the forest, following a valley, or pausing on a relaxing day walk to take in the view.
When asked to name the place that took her breath away most, Linda said, “Milford Sound and Mt Cook are contenders.” Yet, when asked to choose a favorite, she returned to somewhere greener - a place so lush it felt as if she was entering another age as soon as she stepped onto the trail.

Walk the Rainforests of Paparoa National Park
Along the West Coast, rainforest and rugged shoreline give New Zealand’s South Island a different character. In Paparoa National Park, the dense vegetation and dramatic rock walls that run right next to the trail resemble a world lost through time.
“Entering the Pororari River Gorge at Paparoa National Park to hike the Paparoa Track felt like we were walking into a prehistoric Jurassic world,” Linda said.
The stunning, various sights impressed Peggy R., who traveled on the same departure, as well. She remembered the changing landscapes, from rainforests and coastal beaches to mountains and glaciers.
“New Zealand was more amazing than expected,” Peggy shared. “What a wonderful adventure!”
That changing scenery gives the South Island journey its momentum. Even after multiple memorable hikes, there are other environments left to discover. As the adventure continued toward Fiordland, the relationship between mountains and water became especially striking as our travelers witnessed Milford Sound.

Spend a Night Surrounded by Milford Sound
At Milford Sound, steep cliffs rise from beneath the water, covered with rainforest and cascading waterfalls. Seeing the cliffs from the fiord offers a new understanding of their grandiosity - the view becomes something that’s felt, not just seen. Unsurprisingly, this stunning landscape was another contender when Linda tried to identify the most breathtaking moment of her adventure with AGC.
On AGC’S New Zealand's Wild Wonders: Southern Alps & National Parks trip, an overnight cruise is booked so travelers are able to enjoy this breathtaking scenery beyond a brief visit. Travelers settle into an ensuite cabin, enjoy dinner aboard, and hear from a specialist nature guide before waking the next morning surrounded by Fiordland. The evening and morning become part of the experience, giving travelers more time to watch the landscape as the sun rises and the weather shifts for the day, while sharing leisurely meals, conversation, and time together that can deepen connection within the group.
However, this is not the only time that breathtaking views of water shape the journey. Travelers also kayak on Ōkārito Lagoon while spotting diverse birdlife and a paddle on Lake Wānaka brings more exhilarating mountain views from the base of the water. These experiences reflect the thoughtful, well-rounded way AGC designs its adventures: offering opportunities to connect with New Zealand’s landscapes from different perspectives, with knowledgeable support and time to truly take it all in.

Warm Welcome and Wildlife Along the Way
For all its grandiose, stunning views, New Zealand also brings delight in much smaller ways with equally large impact. One of Linda’s favorite moments on the trip was when a South Island Robin - a small, native forest bird known for being friendly and trusting around people - approached the group on a hiking trail.
“These small birds come right up close, sometimes checking out your shoelaces,” she said.
That encounter, no matter how small comparatively to the rest that was experienced, stayed with Linda long after she returned home. She loves birds and was touched when she noticed the affection New Zealanders showed for them as well as the other native species and their surroundings. Wildlife encounters vary, but her story reminds us that sometimes the smallest thing takes up the most space in your heart.
Travelers may originally come to New Zealand for the landscapes, but oftentimes are impacted most by the unplanned, delightful moments and those they share them with.
Enjoy Local Flavors and Time to Unwind
After active days on the trail, travelers enjoy time spent in the towns, immersing in New Zealand’s culture through a Māori cultural and culinary walking tour in Christchurch, a soak in the Waiho hot tubs, and a free day to explore Queenstown. This offers a chance to be immersed in local culture and taste a new world of flavors between the trails.
Linda praised the food, accommodations, and leaders on her New Zealand trip with AGC, and Patricia M. (who joined the same departure), echoed that appreciation when she said, “Amazing sites visited, hotels were great, food was great, and our guides were excellent.”
With two weeks in New Zealand, there is plenty of time to build a collection of favorite moments, bonds within the group, and a better understanding of local culture.
Join Our New Zealand Adventure
AGC adventures are wonderful opportunities to not only experience a place for yourself, but to build friendship and lasting memories with a group of wonderful women also there to experience, learn, and support one another.
This was Linda’s second AGC trip, and meeting women from around the country was part of what she enjoyed most. When asked what she would tell a woman considering her first departure, she said, “Do it! The name, Adventures in Good Company, is apt… Women have made friendships that persist long after the AGC trip is over, often meeting up again for another AGC adventure.”
There are endless reasons why New Zealand stays on so many travel wish lists - from mountain views unlike anything you’ve seen before, a moment on the water beneath regal, cascading cliffs, or the woman beside you who becomes a friend. Linda and Patricia both had been wanting to visit New Zealand for years before deciding to take the leap and explore it with Adventures in Good Company. If you’ve had New Zealand on your list but haven’t found the way there yet, consider joining us on our next New Zealand's Wild Wonders: Southern Alps & National Parks departure.
