Bonjour!

Exploring the picturesque landscapes of Provence with Adventures in Good Company is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. From breathtaking hikes and historic landmarks to world-class cuisine, this journey offers an unforgettable blend of adventure and culture. Here’s a glimpse into the highlights of this incredible trip from September 2024:

Starting in Avignon

Our journey began in Avignon, where we gathered near the iconic Palais des Papes to meet our group and guide, Delphine. After introductions and a brief orientation, we enjoyed the first of many elegant three-course dinners, setting the tone for the culinary delights ahead.

Hiking Through History

The week unfolded with scenic hikes and rich cultural experiences. From climbing the rugged trails of the Alpilles with views that inspired Van Gogh to explore Roman ruins in Glanum, every moment was steeped in history and beauty. Along the way, we savored local wines and picnics surrounded by thyme, rosemary, and wildflowers.

In Saint Rémy, we visited the asylum where Van Gogh created 143 works of art, gaining insight into his genius. The charming village streets and serene accommodations at Hotel Gounod added to the experience.

Discovering Les Baux de Provence

A steady hike through the limestone Baby Alps led us to Les Baux de Provence, a stunning village perched atop rocky cliffs. With opportunities for shopping, photography, and cocktails, this day combined adventure with indulgence.

Immersed in the Luberon Mountains

As we moved to the Luberon Mountains, the hikes became more challenging, but the rewards were immense. From panoramic views to welcoming accommodations run by women, the journey was as inspiring as it was invigorating. Leisurely afternoons spent by the pool or hiking with resident dogs provided the perfect balance to the week’s adventures.

Captivated by Mont Ventoux

The pinnacle of our trip was ascending Mont Ventoux. Starting in lush forests and climbing to open limestone slopes, the trail offered spectacular views of the Alps. A celebratory toast at the summit was well-earned after a day of challenging hiking.

Culinary Highlights

Throughout the trip, food was an integral part of the experience. From elaborate picnics featuring local cheeses and wines to a Michelin-star-worthy dinner in Gigondas, each meal was a celebration of Provençal cuisine.

Reflecting on the Journey

This Provence adventure offered not only a chance to explore stunning landscapes but also to connect with the history, culture, and flavors of Southern France. Whether hiking through vineyards, marveling at Roman ruins, or simply enjoying a quiet moment by the pool, the memories made on this trip will linger long after returning home.
