In winter, trails become quiet, covered in white, and the landscape seems to take on an entirely new character.
At Adventures in Good Company, we believe winter isn’t a season to wait out—it’s a season to experience. Our winter trips, including Winter in the Alps, Iceland: Chasing Lights & Winter Delights, and Dog Sledding and Winter Fun in Minnesota, combine active days exploring beautiful scenery together with evenings spent unwinding over good food, cozy blankets, and the support of a group of women who are equally excited to be there, learn something new, and experience the season together.
What Makes AGC Winter Adventures Different
A Community That Meets You Where You Are
There is a spirit that carries through every AGC adventure: the spirit of camaraderie, encouragement, and empowerment between the women who travel together.
Leslie Tuttle, an experienced AGC traveler who joined our Dog Sledding and Winter Fun trip at age 74, arrived with some concerns about the physical challenge, but those worries quickly faded as she discovered the supportive community that formed around her.
Tuttle found that the women on her trip were especially encouraging of one another—finding thoughtful ways to support each other along the trail while also respecting each person’s pace and taking time to slow down and enjoy the views.
That shared sense of encouragement made it easier to embrace the unfamiliar and take the risks that made her experience so rewarding. “This kind of trip self-selects women who are adventurous and willing to take a few risks in order to experience something special,” Tuttle said.

Learning New Winter Activities With Experienced Guides
One of the biggest takeaways from our travelers’ experiences is that winter adventure doesn’t have to mean being an expert, pushing to exhaustion, or enduring the cold simply to say it was done. It is about being prepared, having experienced guides who know how to adapt, and creating an environment where everyone can participate at the level that feels right for them.
For many women, trying a new sport in winter comes with questions about the conditions, staying comfortable, and keeping up physically—especially when an activity is unfamiliar. Tuttle had some of those same concerns, but she quickly found that the right preparation, experienced guides, and supportive group made winter adventure far more approachable and enjoyable than she expected.
“I couldn’t have been more pleased with the experience,” Tuttle said. “The conditions were perfect. The snow was wonderful, fresh, soft and deep. The trails were well groomed… Our guides were so experienced that it put me at ease immediately—realizing that they could meet with any event and find flexible ways to adjust when circumstances presented themselves… And while the temperature was never above zero - sometimes minus 15 to start the day -, I was never cold!” Tuttle said. “Bring lots of layers.”
Of course, good conditions and preparation are only part of the equation. AGC winter adventures combine active days with the freedom to move at a comfortable pace. There is no expectation that everyone will hike at the same speed, and there is always time to slow down, pause, and take in the beauty along the way.
“The guides are there for you, observing each individual, including her abilities, fears and expectations. They will give you advice, lend you a hand or change a plan to suit the group’s needs and capacity… There was no pressure to push on when one wanted to pause,” Tuttle said.
That’s the kind of winter adventure we want to create: active enough to feel exciting, beautiful enough to be memorable, and supportive enough to meet each traveler at her own level.
More to Love About Our Winter Trips
Leslie’s experience is far from unique. Across AGC’s winter adventures, travelers describe the combination of beautiful landscapes, new experiences, supportive guides, and good company as a major part of what makes these trips so memorable.
Bonnie Tompkins, another AGC traveler, summed up her experience on our Dog Sledding and Winter Fun trip as “Perfect ski conditions, beautiful area, great accommodations, superb guides, really great food, nice fellow trippers.”
That same combination of adventure and camaraderie comes through in travelers’ experiences of Iceland.
Debra Ruedisili, who traveled to Iceland on our Chasing Lights & Winter Delights trip, said, “Outstanding guide and fun group of women! We did a little bit of everything on this trip: glacier hiking, visiting waterfalls, riding an Icelandic horse, seeing geysers, and relaxing in the blue lagoon. Excellent way to experience Iceland!”
Fellow traveler Marjorie Rifkin, who was on the same trip, highlighted another side of the experience: “The weather was unusually sunny, warm & windless! That made our daytime walks and touring of the amazing sights truly enjoyable. Clear night skies featured the spectacular Northern Lights display nearly every night!”
Together, these experiences show that winter travel is about so much more than beautiful, frosty landscapes; It is about the people, the experience, and the moments shared in between that make our travelers unable to forget their adventures with us.

AGC Winter Adventures for Women in 2027
For those looking to embrace the snowy season in 2027, AGC offers two very different ways to experience winter: a snow-covered journey through the Alps and an active exploration of Iceland’s dramatic winter landscapes.
Winter in the Alps: Snowshoeing & Cross-Country Skiing is a level 2 adventure that lets you experience the Alps in their quietest, most magical season. Travel through France, Switzerland, and Italy on snowshoes and skis. From the iconic Mont Blanc massif to Gran Paradiso, Italy’s oldest national park, this is a chance to experience some of Europe’s most spectacular mountain landscapes without needing previous winter-sports experience.
Iceland: Chasing Lights & Winter Delights is also a level 2 adventure where you’ll discover a side of Iceland shaped by fire, ice, and geothermal forces. You’ll experience a little bit of everything Iceland has to offer, from glacier-covered volcanoes and black-sand beaches to bubbling geothermal fields and the possibility of the Northern Lights. Along the way, experience Icelandic horses, traditional food, stories, and folklore.
